The newest flagship McLaren W1 is the next-generation successor to the McLaren P1, which itself followed the legendary original McLaren F1. The McLaren W1 represents McLaren’s heritage and track expertise distilled into a £2M hypercar, powered by a cutting-edge hybrid V8 powertrain. This car leverages the latest digital technology to translate analog mechanical equations into an unprecedented experience of thrilling speed and handling—two of the most challenging aspects to perfect in the real world.
If anyone can seamlessly merge the digital and analog experience to make it feel both natural and unobtrusive, it’s McLaren. The W1 boasts 1275 horsepower, making it the most powerful McLaren ever produced.
Powered by an all-new V8 hybrid powertrain, the W1 combines a 928 horsepower combustion engine with a 347 horsepower electric motor. This potent combination delivers a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 217 mph (350 km/h).
The W1’s lightweight construction, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre, contributes to its performance. Weighing in at just 1399 kg, the car boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS/tonne.
Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics and active suspension systems further enhance the W1’s performance on both road and track. The McLaren W1 features a Active Long Tail rear wing that extends rearwards by 300mm, increasing downforce and improving stability at high speeds.
McLaren has also introduced a new Race mode that transforms the W1’s character, lowering the ride height and engaging up to 1000 kg of downforce. This mode is designed to provide a more intense and track-focused driving experience.
With its elevated performance, advanced technology, and a limited production run of 399 units, the McLaren W1 pre-sales team didn’t have to work too hard to sell out all units before production even began.
