The new Ferrari Roma Spider carries over the proportions, volumes, and specifications of the Ferrari Roma Coupe, the open-top convertible is reminiscent of the 1969 365 GTS4, popularly known as the Ferrari Daytona. The Ferrari Roma Spider retains The 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo that can punch out 612 bhp and 761 N⋅m (561 lb⋅ft) of torque. Performance figures are similar to that of the Roma Coupe, the a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration from 0-62mph takes 3.4 seconds, 0-124 mph takes 9.3 seconds, and the top speed is close to 199mph.
Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre headed by Flavio Manzoni, the 2+ spider boasts a sophisticated two-tone weave fabric soft top that deploys in just 13.5 seconds and can be actioned at up to 60 km/h. When retracted, the fabric roof also yields a larger boot.
A new, patented wind deflector integrated into the backrest of the rear bench can be deployed by a button on the central tunnel.
For the Ferrari Roma Spider’s cabin, two separate spaces, one each for driver and passenger, were created in an evolution of the dual cockpit concept.
The digital instrument cluster is complemented by an 8.4” central touchscreen display and the passenger has an optional display that allows them to share driving information.
The modifications to the Ferrari Roma Spider’s bodywork has been profiled to improve aerodynamics at low and high speed. A new retractable spoiler required meticulous geometry calibration and wind tunnel testing.
The Roma Spider’s vehicle dynamics development utilises a Side Slip Control algorithm developed by Ferrari that provides an instantaneous estimate of side slip to all the various on-board control systems.
Like the Ferrari Roma, the Ferrari Roma Spider’s Manettino has five positions to make its handling and traction performance even more accessible with the introduction of the Race position. Supported by the introduction of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, this position is designed to boost fun behind the wheel.
Pricing will be announced in due course, the Roma Coupe retails for £172,000, and the Spider will be more expensive and should retail at circa £200K.
