Just as we were winding down yesterday evening SEAT decided to release details of it’s first ever SUV, the Ateca. SEAT wants to join the booming SUV race and while having joined the party late its better late than never.
The Ateca is based on the new VW Tiguan platform, so its a designated compact SUV. This is a city off-roader destined for the school run and the occasional music festival.
Expect a majority of Ateca models to be front wheel drive only with the more expensive models featuring all-wheel drive. This is no Range Rover it’s a range cruiser.
And also expect to see a familiar VW derived engine line up, and expect to see the availability of the new three-cylinder 1.0 TSi, 113bhp petrol engine.
If you don’t like mini-mouse engines then 1.6 and 2.0 diesel engines will be available in a few power derivatives.
SEAT have also stated that the modular platform upon which the Ateca is based could easily be adapted to fit hybrid technology.
On the inside you also get assistance systems such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Traffic Jam Assist. Plus the latest connectivity and additional technology highlights such as electric tailgate with virtual pedal and wireless charger.
In addition expect to find a host of coneectivity features such as AppleCarPlay and Androids Mirror link, USB and SD slots.
If you are interested in a SEAT Ateca then the order books will open in the UK on February 11th 2016 with first deliveries expected in December.
Base models are expected to start at £18-19k.
